Suspect in carjacking sought
MARLBORO - Police are investigating a carjacking incident that took place on July 6 at the Marlboro Plaza shopping center, Route 9 and Route 520.
According to a police press release, a 40-year-old township resident called police at about 4:45 p.m. to report that she had been carjacked.
The woman reported that while she was walking back to her car in the area near the TJ Maxx department store, she was accosted by a man who forced her into her car from the driver's side to the passenger's side.
The perpetrator was described as a black male, between 6-feet, 1-inch and 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with a medium build, a flat nose, large nostrils, short cropped hair and a round face. He was wearing a white tank top shirt, either cargo shorts or pants, and brown work boots with untied laces.
Police said that after the man forced the woman into the car, he drove off and demanded cash from the woman.
He claimed he had a knife and would use it to cut the woman if she did not comply with his demands.
According to the press release, the woman told the man that her husband had a bank account in Monroe Township, which is about 5 miles west of Marlboro.
The man drove to Monroe Township and pulled over in order to switch seats with the woman. She drove to the bank's drive-up area and withdrew cash from her account. Police said that after the woman drove away from the bank the suspect forced her to pull over and he again took the wheel.
He drove back to Marlboro and eventually dropped off the woman in the driveway of a home on Tennent Road.
Officers later recovered the woman's vehicle in the Marlboro Plaza. Police said the woman was not physically harmed during the incident.
Police declined to say how much money was involved in the crime.
